Structure – Work Packages

WP1Determination of composition and physical properties in different PCBs samples.

The laboratories of NTUA are equipped with the necessary analytical infrastructure and apply standard methodology for the physicochemical characterization of different types of samples of PCBs such as: samples from size reduction processes and samples from materials separation processes. The different types of determinations are necessary to define and evaluate the stages of the process to be developed in pilot scale.

WP2Mechanical pretreatment of PCBs for metal recovery.

The design of optimized mechanical pretreatment and component separation processes is carried out by the Laboratory of Mineral Processing. The objective is to obtain PCB fractions, enriched in the targeted metals, to be treated hydrometallurgically.

WP3Hydrometallurgical process design.

Extensive experimental study for the design of the process is carried out by the Laboratory of Metallurgy – Unit of Hydrometallurgy and the Laboratory of Environmental Science and Engineering.

WP4Development of waste treatment system.

Design and operation in semi-pilot and pilot scale of biological reactors for the removal of the metals dissolved in wastewater by the Laboratory of Environmental Science and Engineering.

WP5Flowsheet of integrated hydrometallurgical/biological process.

The flowsheet of the pretreatment, hydrometallurgical treatment and waste treatment will be the basis for the construction of the pilot unit.

WP6Design and construction of pilot unit.

Construction of pilot unit.

WP7Operation and evaluation of the pilot unit.

Ecoreset in collaboration with BIANATT will operate the pilot unit and NTUA will act as consultant for the evaluation and proposal of improvements of the pilot unit during the test period.
